Junior thrower Jake Chavez has been named the PRA High School boys’ track and field team’s Athlete of the Month for April following his breakout, and record-setting, junior season.
Chavez set the school record this spring in the discus, with a throw of 123-feet, 10-inches while also improving his shot put throw by over seven feet. His performance earned him Second Team All-Conference in the shot put and Honorable Mention in discus.
He was nominated by head coach Mary Marr, who said of Jake:
“Jake rarely misses a practice, showing the commitment and dedication it takes to improve his marks. He is a testament to the idea that when you focus on the process and put in the work, good things will follow. We are excited to see what his senior season will bring and are confident it will include a state-qualifying mark in 2027.
