PRA sophomore singles’ player Shannon Schmidt has earned the girls’ tennis team’s Athlete of the Month award for April after helping guide the Miners to the Class 3A State Championship match for the second year in a row.
Schmidt served as the Miners’ No. 2 singles’ player this spring, posting an undefeated 18-0 record during the regular season and finishing as the No. 2 singles’ state runner-up in the Class 3A individual state tournament. Of those 18 victories, three came in the first-place matches at the Longmont, Holy Family and Centaurus tournaments.
On May 12, Schmidt was named to the Class 3A First Team All-State team. She was nominated by head coach Ari Finkelstein, who said of Shannon:
“At #2 Singles this year, Shannon has been a rock for our team and a great, vocal supporter of her fellow teammates. It has been incredible to see her improvement over the last couple years. And she still has one year left to play!”
