PRA sophomore goalkeeper Avery Melssen has earned the girls’ soccer program’s Athlete of the Month award for March, showing immense growth after taking over the starting job this spring.
Melssen is a true anchor for the PRA defense, keeping the Miners in every game with her consistent play and ability to come up with seemingly impossible saves in big moments. She was nominated by head coach Eric Wolf, who said of Avery:
“Avery came into this season as a sophomore goalkeeper with some really big shoes to fill of the previous two goalies. It is obvious that Avery came into the season prepared to give it her all in net for her teammates.”
